The issues, worries, anxieties, disorders and pain that our kiddos walk through today are ridiculous!

Our kids worry about…

  • Stories in the news
  • Mom and Dad getting hurt when they leave
  • Parents arguing
  • Monsters and the dark
  • Bullying
  • Storms, lightning, thunder, hail, hurricanes and tornadoes
  • Mom and Dad’s financial situation
  • Having a big butt, acne or not being pretty enough
  • Making bad grades
  • Making Mom and Dad mad

I don’t see our kiddos worries decreasing much in the next few years, but we (Mom and Dad) have the opportunity to empower and unleash our kiddos to deal with their worry in a God honoring way.

I encourage all parents to sit down with their children this week and teach them Philippians 4:6-7…

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

Do Not Be Anxious About Anything:  Teach your children that they are commanded not to worry.  They must not worry about boyfriends, girlfriends, what others say, making bad grades or bullies.  God’s command to not worry doesn’t mean that these things should not be thought about or addressed but God says that we should not WORRY about them.

By Prayer And Petitions:  I have taught my kids that every single time a worry comes to their mind they are to pray!  Immediately!  If they worry about a friend being mad at them…STOP AND PRAY.  1 minute later if they are still worrying about that friend…STOP AND PRAY.  2 hours later if they are still worrying about that friend…STOP AND PRAY!  We must teach our kids that when worry enters their mind to STOP AND PRAY even if it means thousands of times daily!

With Thanksgiving Present Your Requests To God:  We must teach our kiddos the discipline of thanking God for the crap in their lives.  Yep, that’s right.  Thank Him for the opportunity to grow though the bad grade.  Thank Him for the nasty break up and the chance to honor Him in this tough season.  Thank him when they are the last one picked for the baseball team.  Again, this is a command to thank him for the tough stuff in our lives.

And The Peace Of God, Which Transcends All Understanding, Will Guard Your Hearts And Your Minds In Christ Jesus:  You have the opportunity to introduce your kids to a crazy, weird, strange peace of God.  Teach your children that when they discipline themselves to not worry, pray and walk in gratitude that God WILL give them a peach that doesn’t make sense.

Now you can teach this verse…or you can TEACH this verse to your kids.

We should help our kids memorize this, teach them how to pray through this, teach them to pray through the worry (until the worry subsides)!

I know your kiddos worry!

It’s time to pull out God’s Word and teach them what The Bible has to say about worry.

Do your kiddos worry?  What is 1 thing that you are seeing your children worry about?
